Yeading 5 Barking & East Ham United 2 (December 15)
Yeading 3 Tooting & Mitcham United 2 (December 18)
The Ding go seventh in the table after two home wins in a week and with games in hand over those above them, they are well placed for a Christmas assault on the promotion places, writes Tim Fuell.
On Saturday, a Jason Tucker penalty, a Matt Miller hat-trick and a great finish from Stephen Griffiths saw off Barking, after the visitors had taken a surprise early lead.
On Tuesday night, in cold conditions, the slippery pitch made for a scrappy opening with Tooting looking more up for the game in the first 45 minutes.
In the 30th minute, Tooting took the lead. Durrand Jemmott broke down the left, and while his first shot was blocked, he was first to recover the rebound and slot the ball home.
Six minutes later, Tooting were two up. A long goal kick down the middle looked easy for Yeading to clear, but John Murphy mistimed his effort and as the ball slipped by him, former Ding striker Nigel Webb volleyed into the top corner of the net.
By the start of the second half fog had begun to settle inside the ground but it only served to inspire Yeading, who dominated play.
The fight back started eight minutes into the half when Errol Telemaque finished superbly by lifting the ball over the advancing goalkeeper and inside the near post.
In the 73rd minute, Murphy went close with a header for Yeading and by then the fog was so thick that the other end of the ground could not be seen.
Yeading equalised with 10 minutes to go following an inspired Nevin Saroya run, powering through the visiting midfield before Jesse Hall cross was finished superbly by Telemaque again at the near post.
Yeading continued their assault on the Tooting goal. With six minutes to go the deserved winner came.
A great diagonal ball from the left by Hall found Murphy on the penalty spot and his header found the net for his first Yeading goal and a vital three points.
