Friends and members enjoyed an informative and interesting talk, with slides, on the Hill Tribes of Thailand, given by Jennifer Hughes. Jennifer spent seven years in the hills and made a study of the culture of the people.

She showed us her collection of Thai costumes and even put them on, on top of her own clothes to show how these are worn.

She ended up looking rather roly-poly, but this was all right she said, as it was a sign that you were being loved and looked after, so take heart fatties of England!

Babies did not wear nappies because they were trained double-quick by being held over a potty whilst a special song was sung to them.

Please may we know the words Jennifer!

Male costumes were heavily embroidered to indicate status and a boy would start embroidering his trousers at age five. Evil spirits were everywhere and were warded off by wearing red.

Come and join us at 2pm at Crofton Halls every second Saturday of the month. There's not a lazy-daisy in sight, and no evil spirits either!
