Maria Oliver and Ernie Shann (pictured) joined dozens of couples at a weekly tea dance organised by musicians Ronald Cheel and Ray Race, this week.

Following an uncertain future, the tea dance has now been resurrected and is held every Monday at the North Cheam Sports and Social Club on London Road.

Beginning with an attendance of 26 at the first event, the last tea dance attracted more than 80 fans of sequin and ballroom dancing, some coming from as far as Tottenham and Epsom.

Regulars have even brought along friends from Canada and Australia, requiring the tea dance Christmas card list to span the globe.

Mr Cheel said: "People of 40 to 50 want to hear older tunes they used to listen to when they were younger. There is a need for this in every community."

Mr Cheel also wished to thank the staff at the North Cheam Sports and Social Club for their continuing support.

Tickets for the tea dance are priced at £3.
