Lewisham Council's decision to cut its budget for removing dumped cars is horribly misguided.
I live near a road which is a regular dumping ground for cars.
I reported one such dumped vehicle to the council's hot line' for enviro-crime.
The car had been rammed into a barrier, it had no tax disc in the windscreen, it was obviously abandoned but looked in road-worthy condition.
During the week, the windows have been smashed in, parts of the engine and wiring system were pulled out and it has been set alight.
It is now an eye-sore and a hazard.
When the council finally removes it, this will be a more difficult and costly job than if it had acted promptly.
Furthermore, a child could be injured in the wreck.
Surely this is false economy?
I would be happy for my council tax to be spent on removing these dumped cars as soon as possible.
