OLD Colfeians were involved in a high-scoring and entertaining game at Redruth on Saturday, but returned from Cornwall empty-handed after losing their National 3 South game 48-34.
The Old Boys made a good start and Rob Berry went over for a try which Matt Townsend converted, who then extended their lead with a penalty.
But it was to be the only time that Colfes would lead as Redruth hit back strongly to turn round at half-time 29-12 ahead.
Kevin Tilson, after excellent scrummage work had laid the platform, went over for a try which Townsend converted.
But once Steve Corlett was sin-binned for "killing" the ball, Redruth scored again.
But Colfes rallied gamely and Tilson went over for his second brilliant try, which Townsend converted to reduce the deficit. Only for Redruth to score a try of their own to lead 41-27.
But newcomer Stuart Lock went over, Townsend converted, and Colfes were back in it.
Needing a converted try to level the scores, Colfes ran the ball from their own line but a forward pass cost possesson and Redruth counter-attacked to a match-clinching try.
On Saturday, Colfes play Camberley at Horn Park, at 2.15pm.
