THE London Borough of Bromley 2001 Excellence in Sport Awards presentation night was held at the Pavilion Leisure Centre, in recognition of young sporting personalities who have achieved success in a wide range of sports.
There were also special awards presented to individuals for their contribution to sport within the Borough.
Jenny Cooper, senior coach of the Chislehurst Millennium Swim Squads, was presented with Coach of the Year Award. She successfully formed this new club from grass-roots, which is now well established and into its third year.
Over a period of 40 years involved in swimming, Jenny has devoted this time to competing, teaching and coaching.
She has taught young swimmers from the basic skills of the sport to coaching medallists at local, county, district, national and international levels.
During the latter part of her swimming achievements, she returned to Masters swimming gaining medals at Kent, district, national and international levels, which included a Great Britain Masters' record for freestyle and medley swimming for the Bromley Masters' Swimming Club.
The guest speaker was Mark Foster, who also presented the awards. Foster has won World, European and Commonwealth Gold medals and has been world record holder for butterfly and freestyle over 50 metres
