Earlier this month, the News Shopper asked its younger readers if they wanted to be a theatre reviewer for a night and many did. This week the winners of our competition tell us what they thought about the seven biggest pantos in the area this year and there's no holds barred!
Lucy Elliot writes about Snow White at the Broadway Theatre, Catford
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, at the Broadway Theatre, Catford, is an hilariously funny pantomime which is well worth seeing. It is cram-packed with songs, dance and jokes with a traditional storyline.
The characters had excellent personalities and great comments to say, they also had great costumes. An example of one was a costume of Nurse Gertie's (she was Snow White's nurse). She wore a yellow frock with red-and-black stripped tights and bananas as earrings she really looked the part. She was one of my favourite performers (but she was really a man).
There was entertainment for all ages, such as a talking dog called Roger who made all of the children laugh with his funny jokes and rhymes.
Muddles (played by Mark Speight from Smart) and Nurse Gertie played lots of games. One game in particular was called the knicker game which was really funny.
The actors danced and sung to the latest songs which we could all sing along to. We all enjoyed shouting back at the characters and joining in with their games whenever we had a chance to.
The wicked witch was excellent (she was played by Vicki Michelle from 'Allo 'Allo). She was very mean and everybody booed when she came on stage.
She had a henchman called Cringe and he really did make us cringe! But he turned out to be good in the end.
The prince and Snow White reminded me of the real fairytale but the Seven Dwarfs had different names to what they were in the fairytale. They were Pops, Surly, Snoozy, Jolly, Wheezy, Blusher and Dozy. My favourite in the pantomime was Blusher because he loved Snow White and thought his kiss would wake her up.
The scenery and lighting were really good. Near the end of the show Nurse Gertie and Muddles asked four children to come on stage and sing with them and I was lucky enough to be one of the children, which was great.
I thought the acting was really good and really enjoyed the show.
I was very pleased to be invited backstage after the performance to meet the cast and get autographs which was very exciting, it finished the evening off beautifully and it was a night I will never forget.
