BBC newsreader Sophie Raworth cut the ribbon to open officially the new entrance at the Avenue Centre, in Teddington, last week.
The project was funded by the centre, which provides support for people with learning disabilities.
Manager Peter Bailey thanked staff and members at the centre, in Normansfield Avenue, for their work in making the project a success.
He said: For the centre, the project symbolised what can be achieved when people work together and help themselves.
