CYCLE lanes costing £13,500 are being built to reduce traffic congestion during the school run.
The new lanes will run from Joydens Lane, Dartford, through Wilmington to Hextable, from spring.
They form part of the Rural Initiative Package which hopes to improve transport links in isolated areas and reduce traffic congestion in the borough.
Dartford council senior highways engineer Andrew Burton, said: "Rural congestion in these areas is particularly bad at school drop-off times.
"The good thing about this type of transport is, not only is it environmentally friendly, it is also a healthier way for children to travel to school."
The money will be spent on widening pavements for dual cycle and pedestrian use and putting up signs.
