(Ryman League Premier Division)ENFIELD survived a second-half onslaught to from Aldershot Town to secure a well deserved point and increase their unbeaten run to six matches.o
During the early moments of the match it was a sparring contest punctuated with numerous free kicks, given away for petty infringements as both sides weighed each other up.o
Aldershot were the first to show as they had the better of the early exchanges. They pushed forward from the back, with defenders Owen Coll and Jason Chewins trying their luck but on each occasion they were thwarted by the in-form Ricky Millard in the Enfield goal.
George Gregoriou put Enfield in front after 16 minutes with a stunning scissor-kick goal from 15 yards.
The quality of the strike instilled some self-belief in Enfield and the E's started to create a number of opportunities with George Georgiou and Lee Allen pulling the strings.
However, Aldershot clawed their way back on top as they peppered the Enfield goal area. Their pressure finally paid off in the 32nd minute when they were awarded a penalty as Coll was impeded by James Ayres.
Payne took the kick, which was well saved by Millard, but being the first player to react he tucked the ball into the empty net.
Aldershot could have gone in front a few moments later when a well worked freekick between Paul Harford and Parker went narrowly wide.
Payne contrived to miss what was an easier opportunity in the dying moments of the half when he put an attempted lob into Millard's grateful arms.
Marvin Walker almost caught Aldershot cold at the start of the second period but Gareth Howells did enough to deny him a clear opportunity.
Other than that early chance it was all Aldershot as the Enfield goal was under almost perpetual siege.
On the hour, Millard pulled off a superb one-handed save from a Lee Protheroe free-kick. And just moments later, Mark Bentley was denied as his 30-yard shot scraped the cross bar.
Millard was clearly the busier of the keepers and in yet another goalmouth scramble he kept the Aldershot front line at bay as the game entered the final moments.
With chances going begging, the Aldershot players clearly became more frustrated and Lee Protheroe, another of the ex-Enfield players on show, was cautioned for a late challenge on the lively Allen.
Allen was again the target of a cynical foul, this time from Coll who was also cautioned, in the dying seconds of the game, which led to a number of players from both sides venting their viewpoint.
ENFIELD: Millard, Hoy (sub: Sesay), Magona (Soteriou), Gyoury, Peddie, Ayres, Rufus, Allen, Gregoriou (Wilkie), Georgiou, Walker
