The Government is to appeal against a landmark ruling by the European Court of Human Rights that night flights from Heathrow violate the rights of people living under the flight path.

The court ruled night flights infringed the rights to a decent night's sleep, following a case brought by eight residents from south west London. Pressure group HACAN ClearSkies has condemned the move. Wandsworth Council says it will defend the appeal in the European court.
