At the National Concert Band Festival (London and East Anglian Region) held in Colchester last weekend, the Croydon Symphonic Band gained a Gold Award in the Community Band section.
The judges were impressed by the rapport between the band and its conductor David Cox and the band's overall quality of sound.
The Gold Award was accompanied by an invitation to attend the finals for the National Concert Band Festival at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester next March.
Attendance at the finals is by invitation only and the CSB will be joined by various other community bands from other regions in the UK. The CSB has previously performed at the finals four times since 1994 and has gained Gold Awards on three of those occasions.
The CSB are currently preparing for their next concert in the Fairfield Concert Hall, which is on Monday, February 18, 2002.
The Band welcomes all woodwind and brass players to rehearsals and further details can be obtained by phoning Sue Reeves on 020 8657 8591.
