COUNCILLORS are preparing to resign their memberships of two "junket" clubs which cost Bromley taxpayers £140,000 a year.
Bromley Council is considering leaving two local government clubs, the Local Government Association and the Association of London Government, in order to save the taxpayer money.
Describing these clubs as "cosy" and "junkets", Tory councillors successfully pushed through a motion to review membership.
Council Leader Michael Tickner said: "The subscriptions are astronomical."
He added: "While some information they produce is useful, a balance needs to be struck between working together with other local authorities and wasting public money on cosy bureaucratic clubs."
Councillor George Taylor, who represents the Shortlands ward, said: "These residential conferences are nothing more than junkets at the local taxpayer's expense."
