THE promotional Speedo League gala took the Erith swimming team to Beckenham Spa, and despite the competition being much tougher than what the team had experienced in the first two galas, they still managed a very creditable performance.

The noise poolside, predominantly caused by Erith's supporters and swimmers, was absolutely amazing and surely played a part in the incredible number of personal bests.

Congratulations must go to Tiffany Brown, who broke the girl's under-15 100-metre backstroke club record with a time of 1min 13.53seconds.

Grant Cooper went one better by breaking the men's 100-metre butterfly and freestyle records in 1:01:49 and 56:03 respectively.

The results of this promotional gala mean that Bexley and Kingston Royals, who were first and second in this gala and overall, are promoted to the Speedo South Premier Division.

Final Speedo League South Division 1 (East) positions (top 6 of 17 teams): Bexley 48 points; Kingston Royals 45; Canterbury 43; Woking A' 41; Braintree & Bocking 38 and Erith 37.

Erith SC is now looking forward to another equally successful year and always welcomes new members.
