One win in the last five games has left Palace's promotion campaign on the verge of collapse but three crucial games in the coming week could revive their fortunes, writes Joseph O'Shea.
Palace played Barnsley at Oakwell last night boosted by the return of three players.
Striker Dougie Freedman was expected to play after illness kept him out of the Sheffield United loss but Clinton Morrison was doubtful with a shoulder injury. Shaun Murphy was to return after being ineligible on Saturday as was Aki Riihilahti after a one-match ban.
But Palace were still without Tony Popovic and Kit Symons (groin), David Hopkin, who was injured on Saturday, and Danny Granville (suspended).
Saturday's trip to struggling Grimsby, who Palace beat 5-0 at home this season, should provide some relief for Francis' men. Popovic may return and Granville will be available for selection.
Portsmouth visit Selhurst Park next Tuesday looking to do the double over the Eagles. Steven Thomson could be back in contention after an ankle injury to give Francis a near full squad to chose from, with just Symons out.
With Palace's play-off rivals pulling away, anything less than six points could mean mid-table mediocrity in a season that has promised so much.
