MAY 2, 1997: Snickers ESFA Under-19 Trophy Final. Parmiter's 0, Monkseaton 0 (after extra time; trophy shared)
PARMITER'S are the national champions.
A battling performance against a very tough Monkseaton gave them a share of the Snickers Individual Schools Under-19 Trophy and was enough to match the achievements of St Michael's School two years ago. The two High Elms Lane schools are the only ones from Hertfordshire ever to reach the final.
Their Northumberland opponents at the impressive home of West Bromwich Albion were outfought on the pitch on Monday afternoon, quite a feat when considering their size and physical presence advantage.
In the stand, they were drowned out by the 15 coachloads of supporters.
Balloons, T-shirts and entertaining and well-rehearsed cheerleaders added the atmosphere on a fantastic day for the school. Even the players seemed to want everyone to enjoy themselves and that is exactly what they did.
Few could argue about the result and penalties and their associated heartache were happily not called for. This was a day for the whole of Watford to celebrate.
The way the team conducted themselves was a credit to the school.
