DAILY Mirror editor Piers Morgan says a cricket match in Farningham to honour a Bexley-born reporter, will become an annual event.

The match was played to honour former Eltham College pupil Simon Ferrari, 51, of Farningham High Street, who died after a stroke, in February. His former colleagues turned up in force to play on the first day of Farningham Cricket Week on July 1.

After a nine-wicket defeat Mr Morgan said: "We'll be back same time, same place next year, but with a much stronger side."

A raffle held at the match raised £333 for Save the Children charity.

In last week's News Shopper we reported Mr Ferrari was a keen gambler. In fact, he did not gamble at all but uncovered many betting stories during his 30 years working for the National Press.
