DAILY Mirror editor Piers Morgan says a cricket match in Farningham, to honour a Bexley-born reporter, will become an annual event.
The match was played to honour former Eltham College pupil, Simon Ferrari, 51, of Farningham High Street, who died of a stroke, in February. His colleagues turned up in force to play on the first day of Farningham Cricket Week, July 1. Mr Ferrari worked for the national press for around 30 years. After a nine-wicket defeat Mr Morgan said: "We'll be back same time, same place next year."
A raffle held at the match raised £333 for the charity Save the Children.
In last week's News Shopper we reported Mr Ferrari was a keen gambler. In fact, he did not gamble at all but uncovered many betting stories for the Daily Mirror.
