ILFORD North MP Linda Perham has welcomed calls for councillors to be able to to refuse planning applications concerning mobile phone masts on health grounds.
She also called for a "precautionary approach" to be adopted regarding the siting of the structures.
Mrs Perham said: "Public concern over this issue is extensive and can't be ignored.
"I feel it's better to be safe than sorry where children's health is concerned and a precautionary approach seems appropriate until definitive research has been published."
