The history of Merton has been unfolded in Urdu for the first time following the launch of a pioneering book by author Saleem Alam.

Dignitaries from the literary world got together at Morden Civic Centre to celebrate the launch of Merton: Hamari Basti Hamara Ghar which translates as Merton: Our Home.

It is the first project in a modern foreign language to be supported by the leisure and libraries department.

Heritage experts hope it will inspire ethnic minority communities to take on similar challenging projects.
