A BLISTERING innings from Robin Sutcliffe fired Abbots Langley through to the final of The Watford Observer MET Linden Homes Knockout Cricket Competition at West Herts on Thursday, July 4.

On a pitch that did the batsmen no favours whatsoever, Abbots struggled to find any momentum against the Northwood attack until Sutcliffe, who is better known as a bowler, came to the crease.

The former Northants youngster fired the majority of Abbots' 35 runs off the final 16 balls, including two stunning sixes, to lift his side to a respectable 86-4.

In reply, Northwood found runs even harder to come by, and saw their last four wickets disappear without a run being added, as they were rolled over for 57.

Abbots now await the winners of West Herts and Langleybury, who ended the challenge of Watford Haidery by eight wickets on the same night, in the final on Tuesday, July 16.

The two Home Counties Premier League Division Two East rivals are scheduled to meet in the second semi-final at Chipperfield on Wednesday, July 10.
