A music conductor from Barnet who has worked with a number of top musicians has joined a list of 100 people to be recognised by Classic FM this year.

Adrian Brown, 52, of Elm Way, Friern Barnet, has worked as a freelance conductor across the country with adults and young people, including Susan Gritton, who sings with the Royal Opera.

Mr Brown was nominated for the Red F award, being given to 100 musicians around the country to mark Classic FM's 10th anniversary, for the part he has played in inspiring young people with classical music.

"I love to conduct music and it's a great thrill when you have youngsters who don't know the music and it's a whole new experience you open them up to," he said.

Mr Brown has worked with the National Youth Orchestra and he conducted Harrow Young Musicians for 25 years. Over the 30 years he has worked with Surrey's Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra he has seen a number of singers and musicians become well-known professionals.

Following in the footsteps of the legendary tenor Pavarotti, the first recipient of a Red F award, Mr Brown said: "I am thrilled to get this award."
