A FILM festival to showcase eight new films made by school pupils has been awarded more than £3,500.

Suburban Shorts will screen the films at The Odeon, in Beckenham High Street, next February.

Bromley Council's arts development team joined forces with The Studio, in Beckenham Road, to make a successful joint bid to the London Film and Video Development Agency for the cash.

Work will start with four secondary schools in the borough in the autumn.

The project will also provide specialist training for the young film-makers as well as launch a film club for young people based at The Studio.

Arts and film officer Kiaran Hall said: "We are delighted to have funding for this project and we hope many of the film-makers involved will go on to have success at other film festivals."
