DIGGING will start later this month for the massive tunnels under the Thames needed for the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
Setting off from Swanscombe, the twin bore tunnel will carry intercontinental trains as part of the project to shorten journey times between the Channel Tunnel and central London.
The first phase of the link, to Fawkham Junction, is now 90 per cent complete and the remaining 24 miles from Southfleet to St Pancras is well underway.
Trains should be able to use the first section of track next year and contractors say they are on course to be finished by 2007.
