A BEXLEY secondary school, due to close in two weeks, has had a glowing Ofsted report.
Thamesmead Community College, which will make way for the new Bexley Business Academy in September was put into special measures by the Government's school inspection team.
But its latest report shows the college has improved significantly in all areas.
Principal Geoff Coop, who leaves in two weeks to take up a job with Bexley Council, is delighted.
"I am especially pleased that, despite the uncertainty created by the impending closure of the school, inspectors were able to write that the quality of teaching during the inspection is a tribute to the staff's professionalism at this challenging time.'
"We have talented staff and some superb students and I wish them every success in the future they deserve it," he said.
The college achieved significantly better results in GCSE and Key Stage 3 (14-year-olds) results.
Its teaching was considered satisfactory or better in 96 per cent of lessons and good or better in two thirds of lessons.
The range and provision for children with special needs has also significantly improved.
Inspectors noted behaviour had improved and students took a new pride in the college and staff morale remained high.
