John Doolan is likely to miss Barnet's first two or three Conference games as he recovers from a disc operation.
Back trouble caused midfielder Doolan to miss the Bees' final eight matches last season.
Following surgery, he has been at the training ground striving to get fit for the imminent campaign.
But manager Peter Shreeves was feeling positive: "Doolan is rehabilitating well."
Wayne Purser, who broke his leg in the 4-1 win over Margate in April, has also been undergoing remedial treatment but could miss the opening match at Doncaster on August 17.
- Barnet, who start their pre-season programme at home to Crystal Palace tomorrow, face a full Arsenal squad at Underhill on August 6.
