A GOLF day in memory of a man who died in a car crash has raised £4,000 for charity.
The Bruce Simmons Memorial Golf Day, in aid of Cancer Research Fund at Batchworth Park Golf Club, Batchworth Hill, Rickmansworth, beat the previous year's total by £1,000.
Friends of the former owner of The BBQ Shop in Chalk Hill, Bushey, and keen sportsman who died aged 46, have held the event two years now in honour of "the popular guy who had a lot of friends."
Mr Peter Cordery grew up with Mr Simmons and arranged the Stableford Competition on Tuesday, July 2, along with three other of his friends.
The competition was won by Jed Reynolds with 44 points, but the most important part was getting everyone together and raising the money for charity.
The event was organised to coicide with the month of the death Mr Simmons who was from Oundle Avenue, Bushey.
Mr Cordery said: "We decided a year following his death to get together and raise money and this year we did a similar thing.
"He was a keen sportsman and played golf so this is an appropriate way to remember him.
"We were lucky to have good weather and it was quite fun gathering everybody together before the event. I would like to thank everybody for their genorisity and support. Everybody got behind it and made it work."
