An NHS trust report has congratulated staff at Whipps Cross Hospital on their handling of the Norwalk-like virus, which forced 16 out of 27 wards to close.

More than 15 patients and 165 members of staff were hit by the highly contagious vomiting bug, last month.

At Friday's meeting of the hospital's NHS trust, director of nursing and quality Eileen Sills, said: "Although there are lessons to be learnt the trust managed this incident effectively this can be attributed to excellent communication and the commitment and dedication of staff, particularly that of the infection control team."
