A YOUNG man was seriously injured when his car was involved in a smash with two lorries outside Whipps Cross hospital on Monday.
Firefighters took half an hour to cut the 31-year-old man out of his mangled Ford Sierra car after the smash on Whipps Cross Road at 12.30pm.
The London Fire Brigade's Rescue Unit from East Ham rushed to the accident, with two other fire engines and two ambulances.
The man was cut free with specialist cutting equipment, and taken by ambulance to Whipps Cross Hospital. He was suffering from multiple injuries including a fractured right arm.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, a police spokesman said.
A witness to the crash said the man was treated at the scene by paramedics, who attached a drip to him. He was then placed on a back-board and transferred to a waiting ambulance for the short trip to casualty.
One of the lorry drivers suffered minor neck injuries, a London Ambulance Service spokesman said.
The road was closed for over two hours as police cleared oil that had been spilled.
