On Saturday, July 13, at 2.30pm, the Benhill Allotment and Horticultural Association holds its summer show at the Strawberry Lodge Conference Centre near Carshalton College.
See a display of vegetables grown to perfection and flowers that impress more than the pictures on a seed pack will ever do. Wonder at trestle tables groaning with jams, jellies, cakes and home handicrafts.
Admission is free. There's nothing to spend except maybe on a home-made cake and tea and hopefully a raffle for helping terminally ill children.
You will go home on that Saturday afternoon believing that gardeners and cake makers make the world a better place.
