A CHARITY for the elderly organised a roadshow in Enfield Town last week.
The Drive Away Loneliness campaign bus, run by the Contact the Elderly organisation, visited Enfield on Tuesday to help raise awareness of the issue of social isolation and loneliness among the elderly.
Among visitors to the roadshow was the Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Graham Eustance.
Contact the Elderly has more than 200 groups nationwide and it urgently needs volunteers to befriend elderly and lonely people, and get them out of their homes. Visitors to the roadshow were encouraged to offer their services.
Group member Jean Young, 88, who lives in a bed-sit in Palmers Green, said: "Life is hard for the elderly.
"I don't think people can really appreciate what it means to an elderly person who is completely on their own to be taken out to meet other people and be shown such warmth and kindness by volunteers."
If you would like to become a volunteer contact the charity on 0800 716543 or Linda Roberts on 8464 7994. The group is also looking for volunteer car drivers.
