Elmhurst School made it seven consecutive cup final wins, when they defeated Whitgift School's B team by a crushing 88 runs at Addiscombe Cricket Club on Thursday to retain the Croydon Schools' Cricket Association's Under 11 Foss Cup, writes David Lomas.
Farhan Hasan was Elmhurst's hero as the medium pace bowler returned remarkable figures of five wickets for four runs, off four overs. Whitgift were hustled out for a paltry 27, in reply to Elmhurst's 115 for six.
Walji was the cornerstone of Elmhurst's total, scoring 37 not out and being well supported by opener Jonathan Charles, who scored 23.
The Whitgift boys were bamboozled by some accurate bowling and fielding. Wickets fell steadily, although opener and skipper, Joe Barrow, stood firm as wickets tumbled around him, finally going to a brilliant catch by wicket-keeper, Adam Strawford.
Croydon Schools' Under 15's have a date at The Oval on Tuesday, July 16, when they compete for the Jack Hobbs Trophy. Admission is free.
Croydon have won the trophy for the past four seasons a record in the 32 yrs history of the Trophy.
