OLD EMANUEL 121 OLD MID-WHITGIFTIAN 64

Old Mid-Whitgiftian surrendered the leadership of Division 2 as a battling display of staggering ineptitude handed Old Emanuel a 57-run victory on Saturday.

Mids started promisingly, finely dismissing a strong Emanuel batting line-up for 121, yet they disastrously collapsed to 64 all out.

Emanuel began positively but lost their way after opener Nayar was run out for 12 and Jarratt followed lbw to Butterworth two balls later. Astwood maintained his scoring rate before he was caught for 13 by Mike Brugnoli. Two quick wickets followed, including that of a subdued Rathore, to leave Emanuel in deep trouble on 57-6. However, Toby Jermyn and Singh edged Emanuel towards respectability. The pair added 35 before Jermyn became the first of three wickets for James Carpenter. Anthony Falce dented Carpenter's figures with 20 from seven balls before the home side were bowled out in the 41st over. Mark Butterworth finished with 3-30.

Old Emanuel appeared to have lost their self-belief, but could not have imagined the submission from Mids. On a slow surface, Mids self-destructed after letting bowlers dictate the early stages. Only 15 runs had been scored in 12 overs when Tony Brugnoli was give lbw to Rathore for 10. However, after Robert Warne fell to an excellent catch by Hutton, the horrors soon unfolded.

Opener Nick Trend stood dumb-founded at the non-striker's end as eight batsmen came and went in a 45 minute period. Trend was the last man out for 29 at the end of an innings in which only one other player reached double figures.
