Athletes at Whitgift School produced a spectacular performance in last weekend's English Schools' Athletics Association Cup final.
Not only was their cumulative points score of 512 the sixth highest in the country, and the best in Surrey, but it was only seven points behind runners-up Helsby High School, with winners RGS High Wycombe only a little further ahead.
The team of 14 year 9 and 10 athletes set 11 personal bests in their 25 events.
They also set the championship record for the 4x100m relay, with Guy House, Billy Lamb, Dan Cipriani and Chris Yu winning in 47.5 seconds.
Joel Keaveny, who only took up the hammer two weeks ago, was delighted with his throw of 33.5m.
Raif Hassan only made the team for the final due to injuries yet his time of 4:43.7 for the 1500m was 23 seconds better than the team's fastest performance in the previous round.
Shot putter Adam Healy also rose to the challenge by producing an outstanding 800m performance of 2:19.8.
