Croydon Harriers' Olympic 400 metre runner Donna Fraser will miss the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and the rest of the season because of a long-standing Achilles heel injury.
The British Olympic finalist confirmed on Tuesday she will have to undergo surgery to rectify the problem after failing to make this week's Norwich Union AAAs.
The 29-year-old had to compete in the event to win selection for the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships. She said: "I have to accept that I am not superwoman and make sure I have an injury-free winter. I will bounce back from this."
Meanwhile, Croydon Harriers' women gained an encouraging third place at Bracknell in their fourth Southern League match on Saturday.
Mirelle Fru shone with two wins, taking the 100m in 13.5sec and showing great potential in the shot with a victorious 8.06m put. She also took third in the long jump.
Middle distance prospect Jessica Goodwin hung in for a good second in her 1500m in 5:25.5.
Michelle Watson won twice for the seniors taking the 100m in 12.9sec and the long jump at 4.95m. She also featured in the winning 4x100m relay team.
The team's next match will be at Banbury on July 27.
