WATFORD FC have confirmed that Ray Lewington is their new manager.
The 45-year-old, who was appointed caretaker boss following the dismissal of Luca Vialli last month, arrived at Vicarage Road last summer as reserve team manager.
An assistant to Lewington will be appointed shortly, which scuppers suggestions that Steve Coppell, who was also in the frame for the manager's post, would be reunited with his former Crystal Palace coaching colleague.
The coaching set-up is completed by the appointment of Nigel Gibbs as reserve team manager.
The former defender, who hung up his boots after a wonderful 20-year playing career at Vicarage Road at the end of the season, will combine this role with his current job of chief scout.
Chief executive Tim Shaw revealed that nine candidates had been interviewed for the manager's job, but said Lewington "has come out as our number one choice totally on merit".
