THE planning committee has sanctioned yet another application for a hot food take-away, with the added attraction of a small internet cafe in Highams Park, against strong local opposition.
Since there has been activity within this particular premises for the past few months, plus a 'let by' board prominent on the outside wall, does this mean that the council pays lip service to the statutory requirement of open politics where justice has to be seen to be done?
Or is the lure of the revenue from one establishment so great that local lives could be disrupted by the noise and litter inevitably created by such an enterprise in a densely populated residential area? Or is this just another venture into the 'politically correct' arena this council prides itself upon?
