A new scheme has been launched which encourages black and ethnic minority students to train as architects.
The Stephen Lawrence Trust - set up by the parents of the murdered teenager - will fund places for black youngsters to study at the University of East London on a three-year Architecture degree.
Stephen, who was killed ten years ago, had hoped to become an architect. His mother Doreen Lawrence said: "We at the Trust are happy that we are in the position to make this award to talented students to follow in the footsteps of Stephen. We want to continue to encourage more black and ethnic minority students to apply to the Trust for support."
The university's Head of the School of Architecture, Prof Peter Salter, said: "It is wonderful to have been awarded the Stephen Lawrence Bursary because although the school has an international reputation, there is an under-representation of local ethnic minority student architects."
To apply for the bursary, ring 8223 3223 or email m.henry@uel.ac.uk.
