Hundreds of people turned up for Epsom fire station's open day on Sunday, and donated close to £1,000 to charity. According to the station's commander, Simon Moore, the aim of the day was to give people fire safety advice as well as a good family day out. Fire fighters provided safety advice on a range of issues including kitchen fires and the importance of smoke alarms. They also gave eager young visitors rides in the fire engines and demonstrations on how to use the jaws of life' to pry open a car. Julia Giles from Epsom's PHAB kids, one of the mayor's charities represented at the open day, said over £200 was raised for the mayor's charities.
