TENSIONS were high at Chingford Foundation School on Tuesday when pupils took part in a chess tournament.
Pupils aged eight to 15 years from Chingford and Walthamstow secondary schools, Highams Park, Heathcote, Rush Croft, Aveling Park, and Chingford C of E Primary schools played.
Tournament champion Jack Goodyear from Chingford C of E School took home a chess board and stop clock.
Pupils from Rush Croft Secondary were congratulated on their efforts winning the beginners section.
Organiser Jonathan Clark said the day went very well, "It was an excellent day. We even had time at the end to have a five-minute blitz contest."
