The 17th Century Life and Times re-enactment group is holding a hands on display of weapons and artefacts from the English Civil War in the grounds of Kingston Museum.

It will take place on Saturday, July 20, and is being organised by Town Centre Ranger and avid re-enactor Chris Poore, who was featured in the Comet earlier this year for his appearance in the BBC series Civil War.

The event is based around the royalist uprising in 1648 which was eventually crushed in a bitter skirmish on the streets of Kingston.

Children are especially welcome to come and meet Sir Francis Villiers, a local royalist hero who now has a local road named after him, and several other key characters.

There will even be a chance to try on some of the garb yourself.

The event in Wheatfield Way, Kingston, runs from 11am to 5pm and admission is free.
