Eighteen-year-old Mark Spate is one of a handful of young people who devotes his time to giving a voice to foster children in Sutton.

Mark is a regular editor of My Shout magazine, a publication dedicated to covering issues affecting children in care.

"We're always looking for more contributions because the magazine must provide what looked-after children want to read. Judging by the letters we received, they really seem to enjoy it," said Mark, who has first-hand experience of being a foster child having spent 12 years living in care.

He said the idea of launching the magazine came from the children themselves.

Published every three months, the magazine is sent out to all the borough's foster children, those working in children's services and all Sutton councillors.

One of its editorial board members is Eny Osung who also spent time in care as a child. "I've seen My Shout grow so much thanks to the young people who send in articles, stories and pictures. It offers the chance to let off steam," she said.
