A VIBRANT, fun-packed, community festival in Lewisham celebrated its 18th birthday with a huge turnout.

Held in Mountsfield Park, Catford, the Lewisham People's Day hosted a crowd of 30,000 people.

The huge amount of events and activities included live Irish music, West Indian songs, choirs from across the borough, Romanian folk songs and salsa.

For the youngsters, there were trapeze workshops with the Flying Dudes, a graffiti wall, face painting and a chance to learn circus skills.

As well as a sports arena with South American style football and a green and tranquil healthy living area with Indian head massage and yoga demonstrations

The healthy spaces tent provided information on NHS Direct and the primary care trust.

Mayor of Lewisham Steve Bullock said: "This annual extravaganza has become renowned for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere, exciting attractions and fantastic music.

"Every year it just goes on getting better and better."
