West Dene School is renowned for offering an excellent academic standard and an all round education within a small caring environment, ensuring each child is treated as an individual achieving their full potential. From ages 2 through to the end of primary education, the curriculum is carefully planned ensuring all learning areas are fully covered.

West Dene Nursery and Preparatory School is conveniently located in Purley. It is situated in pleasant

surroundings and caters for children aged 2 moving upto 11 years. West Dene prides itself on caring for each child in a small, friendly environment. It recently obtained in Excellent Nursery Ofsted Inspection. At West Dene we offer an excellent academic standard.

Pre School children may attend part or full time, in bright well-equipped rooms. Children learn through play in a happy secure environment. The children also begin learning phonics, colours, pencil control and early number concepts, alongside many physical and musical activities.

Nursery children have plenty of opportunity to play on an outside area of lawn, safety surface on tarmac as well as in the well-equipped rooms and large gymnasium.

Children do not have to be toilet trained in Nursery, however they must be fully dry by the time they enter Kindergarten.

After approximately a year in one of the Nursery classes the children then progress to Kindergarten. Computers are provided in the classrooms allowing for free use and individual tuition. A specialist music teacher takes the children. Dance, French and Speech & Drama are also offered.

In the Upper School the curriculum becomes more traditional more traditional, starting the the Foundation Stage and moving onto the National Curriculum. All major subject areas are covered, with children

achieving a high standard. There are computers in all rooms plus an ICT room. A specialist music teacher takes the classes twice a week and also offers individual tuition. French, Judo, Dance and Speech & Drama are also available. Sports activities mainly take place in the afternoon, either outside or in our large

gymnasium, with weekly swimming being offered from Form 1. The school has large lawned areas, safety surfaces and tarmac areas.
