Old Bailey: Barry George, the man jailed for killing TV presenter Jill Dando, has launched an appeal against his conviction.
The appeal hopes to prove that forensic evidence used in the case to prove George's guilt was unsafe.
The original trial focused on a tiny particle of firearms residue found on the defendant's clothing. The firearm used was never found.
George's defence stated that the forensic reports are far from being 'cogent evidence' and friends and family describe the case against the 41-year-old as 'flimsy' and 'circumstantial'.
Barry George, from Crookham Road, Fulham, south west London, was sentenced to life imprisonment in July last year after being found guilty of the April 1999 'execution style' shooting of 37-year-old TV presenter Jill Dando.
Lord Chief Justice, Lord Woolf, Mr Justice Curtis and Mr Justice Henriques will hear the appeal.
