RESIDENTS got back on the buses in a tribute to public transport and raised nearly £200 for a Sydenham hospice.

The 1702 Preservation Society, which runs two antique buses, operated a special service to commemorate 50 years since the last tram rolled out of New Cross, on July 5, 1952.

Passengers received 50s-style tickets and donations, totalling £194.33, will go to St Christopher's Hospice.

The special service ran tram routes and numbers and replacement bus services on routes which took in Grove Park, Catford and Woolwich Arsenal Station.
