GREENWICH Council's waste management and street cleansing has room to improve, a report has found.

The Audit Commission praised the authority's domestic refuse service and awarded it an overall rating of two stars out of three.

But the commission pointed out, in order to improve, the council needs to educate residents in the importance of recycling.

Cabinet member for public services Councillor Angela Cornforth said: "We're very pleased to get the thumbs-up from the commission. Its report confirms other surveys' findings that our refuse and cleansing services are popular but more needs to be done."
