Having won critical acclaim for their album Through And Through, duo John Spiers and Jon Boden are currently making huge waves on the folk and acoustic circuit.
They have carved a niche for themselves as modern interpreters of traditional folk songs. Both John (melodeon and backing vocals) and Jon (vocals and fiddle) are in their 20s and are one of the most exciting acts around.
Unlike many young folk duos acts, they do not try to give old tunes a contemporary twist or update them in any way. They rely purely on their energy and enthusiasm to breathe new life into old songs.
Taking their cue from many other folk greats such as Peter Bellamy, Martin Carthy and the Watersons, Spiers and Boden have also referred to early manuscripts for their inspiration as well.
These guys take you on a journey through raucous Morris tunes, inventive arrangements of country dance tunes, upbeat rabble rousing songs and intense ballads. All this and more is delivered with charm, humour and energy.
