I fully agree with J C Wells (Letters, June 26) when he writes the new homes developed at Greenwich Peninsula, alongside the Dome, should be within the means of the local population and not just "luxury housing for the rich".
To see evidence of Greenwich Council's commitment to high-quality, affordable housing, your readers need look no further than the Millennium Village, just next to the Dome site.
Here, an award-winning riverside development of 1,300 homes includes family homes for rent alongside a range of housing for sale. There are also live/work units for people who want to run a business from home.
The rented homes and those for sale are built to the same standard and a new community of tenants and owner occupiers is growing up.
The details of the development around the Dome have still to be finalised but we have told the developers that as, with the Millennium Village, we expect to see a high level of affordable rented housing within the new scheme.
We are well aware of the level of housing need in the borough, and a scheme like this will make an important contribution in providing some of the affordable homes so badly needed across the capital.
