Budding journalists in Grahame Park got a taste of the big time in a Times Newspapers competition last week.
Pupils in Year Five at Blessed Dominic Roman Catholic Primary School in Lanacre Avenue wrote newspaper articles on themes such as the school's Golden Jubilee celebrations and England's quest for World Cup glory.
And competition winner Tayo Lawal, ten, of Boar Hound, was almost lost for words when she discovered she had written the top piece headlined Groovy Shoes for Blessed Dominic in Jubilee' about a jubilee parade at the school.
"I didn't think I would win. I'm very proud it means I will get into the newspaper," she said, adding that she wants to be a writer in later life.
The entries were judged by Times Group deputy editor Colin O'Toole, who said one article stood out from a number of strong entries.
"Tayo's article had the best structure, it got to the point and was a good, lively read," he said. "It showed great promise for someone so young."
The competition was organised by Barnet Education Business Partnership. For more information on Barnet Education Business Partnership call Audrey Salmon on 020 8349 2793.

Blessed Dominic were in their groovy shoes kicking with the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s beats last week on July 4, for the Jubilee.
Jubilee celebration in Blessed Dominic RC Primary School was a tremendous success. It started with a get-together where every class showed off their dazzling dressing. Some dressed as Spiderman, most dressed as cheerleaders, including Tayo Lawal from Year Five.
Miss Bradshaw, who organised the children, said the parade was lovely and hopes in future they can do it again. After the parade the children went into class and designed a coin with the front of a Jubilee celebration like a crown.
Later on in the day a terrific picnic was held. We had lovely red and white biscuits with sandwiches, drink and lots more fantastic food.
Children finished with dancing from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
Alexandra Sawock said it was really fab and thought everyone enjoyed it.
It really was a success.
